Week 2 : Introduction to Composition

The lecture mentioned information on the rules of third. The Rule of Thirds is the process of dividing an image into thirds, using two horizontal and two vertical lines. This imaginary grid yields nine parts with four intersection points. When you position the most important elements of your image at these intersection points, you produce a much more natural image. It is also suggested that any horizon is placed on either the top horizontal line or bottom horizontal line.

Next it mentioned the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio. It is commonly found in nature, and when used in a design, it fosters organic and natural-looking compositions that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Week 2

I had mainly travel magazines , thus my theme for the collage was centered around exploring the world. I cut out different places in a circle shapes. I cut silhouettes of people that I thought would be useful. I also prepared cotton and holographic paper.

Collage Elements :

Then, I created three compositions of the collage to see how it will look in different perspective to get the ultimate result.

Final Work

A Planet Away

I was inspired by having two travel magazines to create something that oozes out my love for travel. We see in this collage a hand reaching out to get different parts of the world. I cut out circular chapes of places to create a planet like reference and the black paper plays the part of being the galaxy. I also used cotton to give it a 3-D effect and drew on stars to complete it.
