Double Exposure :
Double Exposure refers to the combination or several photos to make them feel more surreal. It is normally made using silhouettes and through the editing process.
Often time there are 8 ways to create a double exposure photo :
1. Using the shadow of a silhouette.
2. Making simple photos look like something even more bizzare.
3. Combining two random photo to tell a new story.
4. Focusing on the silhouette of the subject and inserting photos in them.
5. Converting to black & white.
6. Creating textures in a photo or enhancing its sharpness.
7. Creating a fake reflection to create depth.
8. Using the tilt-shift effect to create movement.
Blending Modes in Photoshop :
Colour Theory :
Colour theory refers to the science behind the art of using colours efficiently.
Achromatic are the hues of black and white.
Monochromatic is the shades of one colour.
Analogous Colours are colours that are next to each other in the colour wheel.
Complementary Colours are colours that are at the opposite of each other in the colour wheel.
Split - Complementary Colours two colours that are on either side of a colours complementary colour on the colour wheel.
Triad Colours are three colours that are equally apart in the colour wheel.
Double Exposure Class Exercise :
We were given a few images and a video tutorial on how to attempt double exposure using Adobe Photoshop. After that I created a new layer under the name solid colour and added a new layer to adjust the contrast of the photo using curve adjustment layer.
First, I selected the forest photo and clipped it.
Then, double click bg’ solid colour, select the “grey sky colour” with eye dropper
- Select brush tool, foreground colour black. Adjust brush size, hardness, and flow to unmask her face.
Duplicate forrest layer, flip vertical and reposition, select clipping mask and adjust the mask, & the portrait’s mask.
Next I added in the photo of birds and clouds to the portrait. Select Darken/Multiply blending mode to remove white background.
Finally, I added a gradient to my final look
