Lecture : Digital Surralism

How to Create  Surralism Art :

1. Sketch It Out

2. Find Reference Image for the world you are creating

3. Keep asking the question "Does it look Real ?"

4. Go to it in different perspectives to make it more real . Change mediums and ask for opinions

Task 3 : Illustrated Typography Poster

This project submission is for both IVN & DPI module. However, marks for the text, vector graphics and typography of the poster is for IVN module and DPI module focuses on our composition using elements of photography.

We had to create an A4 sized poster using a daily Quote we like.

I chose: "Wonder if you look both ways when you cross my mind".

Rationale / Design Concept

I choose this quote that actually comes from a song that I like because it has left a deep impression and is an amazing way to express being in love with someone. I was very impressed in how the singer could phrase an emotion in a sentence and make it relatable to millions. Though its a but long I can say it still manages to leave an impact to its listeners

My main goal was to create a poster that dabbles with graphic and photography very expressively. I wanted t create a poster filled with elements , emphasizing the lyrics that I choose. I want to mainly use warm tone colours as I feel it would suit it more as I relate warm colours to the emotion love. The background should be a complete different colours to let the warm colours shine.

Rather then taking a too happy vibe I wanted to show various emotions, hence why I decided to make the sky background a bit gloomy to express abit of the anxiety when having a crush. As from my sketch I realised the bottom part has a lot of design aspects I wanted to leave the top part more simple to not overwhelm the eyes. I decided to go with an arch design for the upper side of the quote . Though I want it to be normal and plain I still want to pull the viewers eye towards it as I believe evry part of the quote is important.

Sketch Phase 1 :
After our consultation, he told me that the composition is a little to messy and has no direction.
Sketches Phase 2 :

After consulting with my lecturer we decided to go with the first one and started to work on it.
First, I decided relocate the prime photographs needed for my sketch :
1.  A model
2. Flowers
3. Suitable Background
4. Pole
I experimented a lot with different photos to get the ultimate result :

1. A Model

a                                                          b                                                    c
2. Flower
a                                                          b

3.Suitable Background

a                                                              b

4. Pole

a                                                                           b

I experimented with different models after creating the graphics that were planned to be and decided the first picture suited the vibe I was going for more. I didn't really. need to adjust the models face as I felt the original photo already suited it the best.

Next when deciding which flower to use I removed the bg from the flowers using Adobe Photoshop. I also adjusted and played with the saturation, brightness and vibrance through the features in Photoshop. At the end I decided to go with the reddish flower as it matched the colours I was going for.

As for the background I decided to go for the picture that was more even and had less interruption but nevertheless I still tried putting in the the photos in the poster.

I had to use only the upper part of the picture that had a somewhat even row of clouds.

I didn't really like how this turned out and hoped the next one was better.

I also cduplicated it so the picture would not be blurry. Adjusting the saturation and vibrance really helped the picture grow into the one I had envisioned. The changes between before and after was too dramatic.

After , piecing out all the pieces, I realised I didn't need the pole as my poster already had a lot going.

Final Work :

Description :

This striking poster features the thought-provoking quote, "Wonder if you look both ways when you cross my mind," rendered in bold, elegant typography against a backdrop that combines the metaphorical and the literal. The design evokes the feeling of a fleeting thought—one that you can’t quite grasp, yet feels just within reach. The backdrop might is an image of the sky to represent the height of ones imagination can go hen they have the right inspiration. The background and bold  lettering create a striking visual contrast, immediately drawing the viewer's attention to the central message. The inclusion of delicate flowers in the design adds a touch of softness and beauty to the overall composition. The flowers, with their vibrant colors and intricate details, create a sense of tranquility and hope. They serve as a visual metaphor for the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. The open-ended question posed by the text encourages viewers to reflect on their own habits and behaviors, prompting them to consider whether they always take the necessary precautions.
