    Overall Reflection :

    Experience :

In conclusion, this module was both enjoyable and challenging. It was my first real introduction to typography, and it opened my eyes to just how intricate and significant typography is in our everyday lives. It's not just about making things look aesthetically pleasing—it's about ensuring that design carries meaning. My experience with this module was unique. At first, I was a bit overwhelmed, especially by the amount of note-taking involved, particularly the ongoing updates to our blogs and making sure everything was complete. However, once I got through the lecture notes, it became more manageable. I also took the opportunity to read more books about typography, which deepened my understanding of the subject.

The assignments were generally fine. With each new task, I was able to improve my skills and become more comfortable using design software like InDesign and Illustrator. I am particularly grateful to Ms. Vitiyaa for her valuable feedback and guidance. She was always willing to help and provided useful advice to help me enhance my work.

The assignment I struggled with the most was Task 1. As it was the first task, I was unsure about what to do, which made it difficult and stressful. On the other hand, I really enjoyed Task 3. It was more focused on creativity, even though it still involved a lot of technical work. Designing my own font was both fun and fascinating.

As for the lecture videos, I found them to be extremely important for understanding how to complete the later tasks. I now see why we were encouraged to watch them and they provided the essential knowledge and foundation for the work we did.

    Observations :

When I first started this module, everything felt overwhelming, and I honestly thought I would struggle throughout the entire semester. But I was wrong. I ended up learning so much more than I initially expected. We covered a wide range of topics, from type expression and text formatting to type construction and design layout. These may seem like the basics, but they actually added up to a lot of valuable knowledge. I also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of text composition, such as incorporating negative space and applying the golden ratio rule in text formatting tasks.

One key takeaway from this module is how crucial attention to detail is in typography. I learned how even small elements can have a big impact on the overall design. Another important insight was how using guidelines and grids in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign helps maintain consistency across the design, keeping everything aligned and balanced.

What I particularly enjoyed was seeing how each person's work was so unique. Everyone brought their own creativity and style to typography, which made it interesting and inspiring to learn from each other. By the end of the semester, I really grew to love this module, and I'm glad we had the opportunity to dive into typography in Semester 1.

    Learnings :

This module gave me valuable hands-on experience with tools like Adobe Illustrator , InDesign , and FontLab. I even applied some of the skills I learned here to my IVN and DPI classes, which turned out to be incredibly useful. Beyond that, I realized just how detail-oriented typography is, especially when it comes to elements like kerning and text formatting. There's a certain satisfaction in figuring out how to make text or fonts look polished and well-balanced, even though it could get frustrating at times.

I also learned that creating great designs requires a solid understanding of typography basics especially the history, evolution, and key terminology associated with it. This foundational knowledge really helped me improve the quality of my work. On top of that, I even picked up some coding skills while working on my blog portfolios.

In conclusion, I’m extremely grateful for everything I’ve learned during the 15 weeks of this module. I’m confident that these skills will be beneficial in many other areas of design moving forward.
