Task 3
Task 2 requires you to choose one of the 3 sketches done. Develop it through colour exploration, composition, typeface, positioning with design principles in mind. Finalise your idea.
Instruction :
1. Create your final design in A4 size, JPEG format in at least 300dpi pixel size.
2. Label the design as <Your Name_Title of Design-Task3>
3. Write a 200 word rationale , explaining the decision made in the design ( meaning / purpose of the design) and design principles in the design
4. Include feedback from lecturer
5. A final reflection
A final reflection that responds to the questions below:
What have I learnt in this module?
What did I enjoy the most? What did I not enjoy the most?
What have I learnt about myself through this module?
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
What are my aspirations?

Process of creating this piece :
So far I had added words to help my artwork tell it's message to the audience.
Feedback : Mr.Fauzi said to look at some movie posters to word my wording better for the eye. He suggested using the hierachy design position to help guide the eye better.
Inspirations :
I decided to come up with other types of font placement to get a better result :
 |
| 1 |
 |
| 2 |
 |
| 3 |
 |
| 4 |
 |
| 5 |
In the end I chose this as my final piece :
Rationale ( 200 words) :
My artwork has been transformed to better tell its story. The colours and lighting clearly show two sides: the warm colors on the left symbolize vengeance, while the cool colorus on the right stand for justice. Robin's design is divided down the middle to highlight this inner conflict. The background is made richer with mirrored cityscapes and bat silhouettes, which emphasize Batman's legacy. The bold title “Legacy of the Bat” and the tagline “Between Vengeance and Justice, a Hero is Born” further clarify the theme. Everything is balanced; Robin is at the center, framed by the Bat-Signal, creating a strong and well-balanced visual impact.
The meaning of the artwork focuses on duality and the journey to becoming a hero. Robin is stuck between vengeance, represented by the sun and warm colors, and justice, symbolized by the moon and cool colours. This inner battle mirrors the struggles faced by many in the Bat-family, illustrating the choice between raw revenge and disciplined heroism. The tagline underscores that true heroism arises from balancing these forces, turning anger into a meaningful mission rather than letting it become uncontrollable rage.
Several design elements enhance the visual storytelling. The balance and contrast between warm and cool colours emphasize the theme. Robin's look and split design draw attention, making him the main focus. The proportion and scale ensure he is the standout element, while alignment and repetition, such as the bat silhouettes and dual light sources, create a sense of rhythm and unity. Finally, the storytelling weaves everything together, presenting a powerful visual illustration of Robin’s critical life choices.
Breakdown :
Meaning of Artwork :
Duality
Robin is visually divided into two halves: one side bathed in warm tones (orange/yellow) and the other in cool tones (blue/white). This represents the choice between vengeance and justice, mirroring the conflict many Bat-family members face.
Sun and Moon Symbolism
- The left side, with the sun and warm tones, may symbolize vengeance, aggression, and a thirst for retribution.
- The right side, with the moon and cool tones, represents discipline, justice, and self-control, qualities Batman instills in his protégés.
Becoming a Hero
- The tagline, "Between Vengeance and Justice, a Hero is Born," reinforces the idea that a true hero must navigate between these opposing forces. It suggests that struggle and choice are integral to one’s transformation into a protector rather than a vigilante driven by anger.
Design Principles used :
1.Balance - The image is divided into two halves, with one side featuring warm tones (orange/yellow) and the other cool tones (blue/white). This creates a strong visual contrast and symmetry.
2.Contrast - The dark figure of Robin stands out against the bright backgrounds, emphasizing his presence. The split between warm and cool colors further enhances contrast.
3.Emphasis - The central character (Robin) is the main focus, with strong lighting and a direct gaze drawing attention. The split effect in his design reinforces a duality theme.
4.Proportion & Scale - The character takes up a large portion of the composition, making him the dominant element. The smaller bats and city elements add context without overpowering the main subject.
5.Alignment - The title "LEGACY OF THE BAT" is bold fitting the overall theme. The tagline at the bottom adds to the storytelling aspect of the design.
6.Storytelling - The split between warm (vengeance) and cool (justice) represents the character’s internal struggle, reinforcing the tagline: "BETWEEN VENGEANCE AND JUSTICE A HERO IS BORN."
7.Repetition & Rhythm - The repeated bat silhouettes and the dual light sources (sun and moon) create a rhythm that guides the viewer's eye across the image.
Final Reflection :
From this module, I have learned how to create a better composition for an artwork. I also feel I have further widened and deepened my knowledge on design principles and how to apply them to my work. I enjoyed having to challenge myself into improving my favourite artwork ad coming up with different perspective on how to improve it's design. I found it difficult to play around with different fonts as I couldn't get the right vibe I was wanting until the very end after brainstorming and looking at references. I realised I find myself looking at thing using design principles, as in I can identify design principles and elements in everyday things. I aspire to continue expanding my skill set and creating pieces of artworks that are pleasent to the viewer and can tell it's own story.
