Reflection

Experience :

In the short film, I directed, shot, lit, and edited a one-minute video exploring fear, transformation, and self-reckoning. We used VFX like lightning, duplicates, and a vanishing mouth to show Lucy’s psychological unraveling. It was challenging managing multiple roles, but very fulfilling.

In the sound tasks, I learned how to adjust pitch, shape my voice, and sync audio using Adobe Audition. Dubbing was especially tricky, but rewarding. Sound shaping was easier, giving me freedom to experiment with my voice.

Creating the trailer gave me a full feel of what it’s like to shoot a video. I practiced scene planning, directing, and colour correction, learning how tone and atmosphere can be shaped through visuals.

Observation :

Across all three projects, I noticed just how important sound and visuals are in setting the mood and telling a compelling story. Whether it was through VFX in the short film, sound syncing in the dubbing task, or colour correction in the trailer, every creative choice helped shape the emotional impact of the final product. I also realized that collaboration and flexibility are essential, especially in small teams or when juggling different roles.

Findings :

These experiences showed me that the best storytelling doesn’t come from complexity, but from clarity and emotional intention. The VFX worked because they supported the narrative, and the sound design was effective because it matched the tone. Adobe Audition introduced me to just how many tools are available to shape audio, and working on the trailer gave me insight into the full process of video creation, from concept and shooting to editing and final color grading.

Conclusion :

Overall, these experiences taught me how to combine technical tools with emotional storytelling. I learned to manage production, apply VFX with purpose, use sound as a narrative device, and collaborate effectively. I'm proud of the growth I’ve made, from learning to shape sound and edit voices to directing a short film and crafting a compelling trailer. Each project built on the last, helping me find confidence as a visual storyteller.
